The Ermelo-born midfielder was the dished out the standout performance of the evening with a confident display in attacking midfield. The 21-year-old dictated the tempo and repeatedly unlocked the Spanish defence with incisive forward passes.
His composure in tight spaces and willingness to play progressively kept Cádiz CF under constant pressure. He also won a dangerous free-kick after being brought down just outside the penalty area during the second half.
Masilela earned his promotion after starring for Orlando Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge side. He played a key role as the reserve team won their first-ever league title before receiving his senior opportunity.
Matome Mmolai
He also impressed with a composed display in midfield. The 23-year-old linked defence and attack with ease while protecting possession under heavy pressure from the Spanish outfit.
The midfielder joined Orlando Pirates from Leicesterford City in June after previously making a name for himself with JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
ORLANDO PIRATES’ MIDFIELD LOOKS STRONG
Mthetheleli Mthiyane
Playing as a second half substitute, the Richards Bay-born star completed an encouraging evening for the club’s new signings. The midfielder recovered from a shaky start to produce a disciplined performance in front of the defence.
He used his physical presence to break up attacks and helped protect the backline as Cádiz CF pushed for a late equaliser.
The 24-year-old joined Orlando Pirates on a three-year deal from Stellenbosch FC after an outstanding campaign that also earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up and a Player of the Season nomination.
The performances of Masilela, Mmolai and Mthiyane will leave Orlando Pirates supporters optimistic as the club continues preparing for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
