Honda Odyssey owners are advised to check in with their dealership after an airbag deployment issue prompted a recall.
The Japanese automaker has announced a recall of more than 37,000 Odyssey minivans for a safety risk from an “unexpected airbag deployment.”

A recall issued on April 9 and posted on Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database noted certain Honda Odyssey vehicle years from 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 were affected.
“ On certain vehicles, under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the side airbag(s) and side curtain airbag(s) to inflate unexpectedly,” said the notice.
The recall noted it’s a safety risk because an “airbag that deploys without a crash could create a risk of injury.”
Honda will notify affected vehicle owners by mail, according to the recall notice.
Customers are also advised to take their vehicles to a dealership to “ reprogram or replace the supplemental restraint system (SRS) electronic control unit (ECU),” as necessary.
Owners can check online to see if the recall applies to their specific vehicle, or they can call Honda at 1-888-946-6329.
The Honda Odyssey is an eight-seat minivan that was introduced in North America in 1994.
This is the latest recall issued by Honda. In December, about 11,000 Acura ILX (made by Honda) from 2016 to 2020 were recalled due to brake issues.
In 2024, 12,000 Honda SUVs were recalled in Canada after it was found that the fuel filler neck can separate from the filler pipe in a crash, causing gasoline to leak and increasing fire risks.
