‘Swept in the playoffs’ – Charles Barkley rubbishes claim of LeBron James beating ‘Father Time’

LeBron James is going to turn 42 in December, but he remains one of the best players in the NBA. His offseason free agency saga was another indication of that, as multiple teams looked into bringing him onto their roster.

The four-time NBA champion eventually signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, instantly making them the favourites to come out of the Eastern Conference.

He averaged 20.9 PPG, 7.2 APG and 6.1 RPG last season with the LA Lakers. His performance in the playoffs as well proved that he was defying Father Time.

However, not everyone agrees with this narrative, especially former 76ers player Charles Barkley.

Charles Barkley explains why he doesn’t think James has defied Father Time

Barkley is a legend of the game, but he often has takes that divide opinions, and this is certainly one of them.

James can still play at a high level and he has proven that time and again on the NBA floor. He still produces moments of magic, and his athleticism has not dropped off much either.

But Barkley’s argument mainly revolved around the recent results of James’ teams.

“We have to be honest about LeBron, he got swept in the playoffs last couple of years. So just because you’re putting up good numbers don’t mean you’re being effective,” said Barkley on the Bill Simmons podcast.

“People say he’s defying the odds, but if my memory serves me correctly, he’s gotten swept in the playoffs the last couple of years.

“So is he putting up good numbers? Yes, he’s putting up good numbers… For me it’s a lot easier to get numbers now, and don’t get me wrong LeBron’s playing well, but to say, ‘He’s beating odds,’ they got swept the last two years— LeBron is playing well but to say he’s beating Father Time…”

To be fair to Barkley, James’ record in the playoffs with the Lakers has not been all that great in recent years. He did have a great series against the Houston Rockets, but when the OKC Thunder came in the second round, King James just did not have the tools to overcome the young side.

He averaged 23.2 PPG, 7.3 APG, and 6.7 RPG in the 2026 playoffs. While these numbers may look decent, James has set the bar a little too high. In the absence of Luka Doncic, James wasn’t able to carry the entire offensive load himself.

Next season is LeBron James’ 24th in the league. He certainly is once again an important player for a team trying to fight for a championship. Whether he is defying Father Time or not,all eyes will certainly be on him and the 76ers to see if he can win his fifth NBA championship and change Barkley’s mind.

Alabama’s 42 Friday Night: High School Football Week 3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Week 3 of high school football in Alabama is in the books. We were treated to another No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup in 6A. #2 Vestavia Hills paid a visit to #1 Thompson.

The Warriors had no issues and dispatched the Rebels 49-0. Thompson improves to 3-0 on the season with wins over (6A) #3 Central Phenix City, (5A) #2 Clay-Chalkville, and (6A) #2 Vestavia Hills.

Alabama QB commit Trent Seaborn became the state's all-time leading passer in the victory.

#7 Spain Park played host to Oak Mountain in another area 6A clash. The Jaguars scored touchdowns on their first three possessions en-route to a 42-21 victory.

Mountain Brook and #7 Homewood renewed their rivalry at Waldrop Stadium. The two played one of the games of the year a season ago. The Patriots took home a drama free 33-13 win tonight to improve to 2-1 on the young season.

Pelham and Helena played perhaps the game of the night. The Huskies won a 27-21 thriller on a late pick six to seal the ball game. Helena stays undefeated at 2-0, while the Panthers fall to 2-1 on the season.

In other 6A action, #9 Hewitt-Trussville defended home turf with a 40-24 victory over #4 Hoover.

In 5A, #9 Hillcrest Tuscaloosa continued its impressive opening to the season with a 63-7 beatdown of Hueytown. #2 Clay-Chalkville bounced back from its loss to Thompson with a 68-0 victory over Springville.

Elsewhere in 5A, McAdory won a thriller over Northridge 41-37. Parker defeated Mortimer Jordan 42-13.

Kerala Tragedy: 8 Tamil Nadu Engineering Students Killed In Horrific Midnight Crash After Car Rams Into Lorry Parked On NH-66 In Thrissur | Watch

Thrissur: Eight engineering students from Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul were killed when their car rammed into a lorry parked "illegally" on NH-66 in Thrissur district of central Keralam, police said on Saturday.

The accident occurred at around 11.40 pm on Friday at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam, when the car, which was travelling from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur, collided with the rear of the Maharashtra-registered lorry, police said.

According to the FIR, the lorry was parked illegally on the right side of the highway near a barricaded section where traffic had been diverted as part of ongoing construction work.

Police said the car was travelling at high speed and its driver apparently failed to notice the diversion barricade before ramming into the rear of the lorry.

Six students died on the spot, while two others were declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, police said.

The deceased were students of an engineering college in Dindigul and were travelling towards Kodungallur along NH-66.

Police have identified six of the deceased. Four of them—Surya, Yuvasanjith, Vishva and Johua—were from Dindigul, while Santhosh and Prasanna were from Madurai. The identities of the other two are yet to be confirmed.

The youth were pulled out of the mangled car during a rescue operation involving residents, fire and rescue personnel and police. Their bodies were taken to the mortuary of Thrissur Medical College, police said.

Kaipamangalam police have registered a case against the lorry driver under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide. The driver went into hiding soon after the accident, police said.

Police contacted the families of the deceased using student identity cards recovered from the bodies. Some of the families were unaware that their children had travelled to Keralam, police said.

Postmortem examinations will begin after the families of the deceased reach Thrissur Medical College, police said.
