Red Sox have new leadoff man (who hit HR in first start) Sunday; Anthony Seigler sits

BOSTON — One day after hitting a two-run homer in his first start with the Red Sox, newcomer Jahmai Jones is leading off Sunday afternoon.

Jones will hit first as the designated hitter as Boston looks to extend its longest winning streak in 20 years to 13 games. The Red Sox have won their first three games of the series against the first-place Rays and will look to finish off a four-game sweep behind righty Sonny Gray at 1:35 p.m. ET.
With Jones leading off, the Red Sox will sit regular leadoff man Anthony Seigler for the first time in 12 games (since July 3). Seigler has started at second base in 23 of the last 24 games but on Sunday, it’ll be Romy Gonzalez in that spot.
Seigler being out of the lineup means Jarren Duran will start in left field Sunday despite the Rays starting lefty Shane McClanahan. Duran came off the bench Saturday to go 0-for-3 and is now hitting .191 with a .597 OPS in 2026.
As usual, Connor Wong will be catching Gray. Andruw Monasterio is at shortstop for the second straight day as the Red Sox start eight righties and the left-handed Wilyer Abreu, who has four homers in his last two games.
Gray, who was snubbed from the American League All-Star team, last pitched last Friday against the Mets at Citi Field. He allowed one earned run in six innings to cap off an 11-start stretch of pitching to a 2.13 ERA to close out the first half.
